Outstanding Greek History and Mythology paintings

Vasilis Bottas Greek history and mythology paintings, constitute perhaps his greatest artworks. The scenes are either conceived from mythological and historical references or are creations from the imagination of the painter. In the first category, we have the colossal in size and unbelievable in terms of detail artwork, “The Siege of Troy”, where Vasilis excels in the presentation of crowds, transferring the adventure of the plot directly to the viewer.

Other stories are depicted with full of beauty and grace, like in the “Birth of Venus” or action in the “Prometheus’ martyrdom”. In the second category, the artworks created out of the imagination of Vasilis are full lyricism (“The nymphs play music”, “The love of Poseidon”, “Heraia” and “Satyrs and Nymphs”).

Vasilis pay tribute to the Lost Homelands, the dramatic depiction of the Catastrophe of Smyrna: the disaster of the Hellenism is presented magnificently and emotionally, one of the rarest paintings ever created related to this subject, inspired from the narrations of his mother who survived the burning of the city. Two more pieces of artworks brings us the atmospheric ambiance of the picturesque traditional houses of the former Greek villages in Pontus.
