Portraits - Nude Paintings

In this category we meet two different types of the depiction of human face and body, expressive portraits and sensual nude paintings, both created in a accurate artistic representation of reality.

Vasilis Bottas painted portraits upon request from people with whom he usually had already a personal contact, an important factor for the right approach before making a portrait. He attributes the facial characteristics and expressions with clarity and enormous quality of detail, irrelevant of the gender and the age.

The colour and the style of the background depends on the person displayed and the atmosphere and contrast he wants to give each time, blending it dexterously with the foreground without losing the sense of depth. He created also a self-portrait in young age, attributing to himself the role that represents him the best and he is proud of, the one of the painter, of the creator, keeping brushes and standing in front of a canvas.  

With the nude paintings of Vasilis Bottas, he praises the beauty of the female body. One of the major characteristics of these type of paintings is the depiction of the expression of the “models”, which are imaginary figures. Vasilis does not paint just naked women, he gives a description of the momentary situation and their action in it. These expressions vary from the most awkward to the most sensual and it is clearly evident that Vasilis does not hesitate to attribute on canvas even the most intimate situations of beautiful women, provoking the conservative viewer. For Vasilis, there is no shame in viewing a naked body artistically and he never limited himself in creativity, leaving his imagination free.
