Faces
Strong surrealist and abstract paintings
This collection of unique surrealist and abstract paintings is characterized by the intense use of colour by the artist who paints completely freely, words of dreams and fantasy. The “Faces” constitutes the second category of modern paintings of Vasilis Bottas.
In this experiment, the painter masters one of his favourite techniques: the codification in painting, an unconventional artistic conception, inviting viewers to search deeper: hidden faces and forms are found in every corner of the canvas, blended together with other faces and forms, silhouettes of people, monsters and unknown creatures, dark and bright, strange animals in various sizes, colours and shapes, natural elements and celestial bodies intermingle, creating a feeling of action, threat, fear and eerie atmosphere in a pompous surrealistic style.
Through this psychedelic approach, Vasilis Bottas challenges the viewer to decode the mystery behind the work and leave his/her imagination free to understand and the find the meaning, which is clearly subjective. The titles of these paintings demonstrate only one possible interpretation; the viewer is free to think others. Some paintings do not even have a title, as Vasilis does not want to represent something specific, but let the viewer catches the feeling from the optical stimulus and discover his/her inner word.
